I know it makes me really selfish, but I wish I could always spend Christmas with just my family.

Stupid Weather! Jul. 20th, 2008 @ 08:59 am
My mom is supposed to come out here today to help me figure out a new plan for my front garden... so what does the weather do?  Oh that's right.... THUNDERSTORMS ALL DAY.

THANKS GOD!

But in good news, my nephew Mark will be arriving at about eight tonight for a 10 day sleepover party at my house! Hooray!

Cable Management Apr. 15th, 2008 @ 10:58 am
With an ever growing collection of electronics, comes an ever growing problem... cables cables everywhere.  Because I am in the process of re-doing my home office (you know, because now I actually need it for work) I have been doing a bit of research to find different ways of hiding those wires so they aren't an eyesore, or a safety issue.  Since I have already done some of the hoof work, I figured I would share my new found knowledge!

1) Mounting cables on the bottom of your desk

2) Purchase a ready made cable management system
or charging station
or make your own charging station

3) Get a better surge protector

4) Upgrade your furniture

I could totally fall back asleep right now.

American Gladiators Jan. 16th, 2008 @ 11:12 am
I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical when I heard that they were going to bring American Gladiators back to prime time TV.  I can remember many a Sunday afternoon sitting on the couch eating tomato soup watching the old version, and loving the heck out of it.

For me, the new version does not disappoint. It is pretty cheesy at times, and at other times, you can't help but cheer people on.  Crush is super hot, and Hellga (yes... HELL-GA) is so freaking awesome you can't help but get excited every time she comes on the screen.  Justice is "Judge, Jury, and Ginormous".  Wolf scares the crap out of me. There are some new games, and the brought back a lot of the old games.  There's a lot of water, and a good deal of fire.

But... I can tell you one thing... I don't plan on missing too many episodes. :)

I may not be able to sleep tonight.  It's all just too exciting.
» Christmas Shopping
1) Amazon.com is bullshit. I placed a pretty large order last night, and selected the free shipping.  I check on the order this morning and they are saying that the order will arrive IN FEBRUARY.  So yea, needless to say I've had to opt for the $15 shipping.

2) Ordering bread online is also bullshit. Doug's grandma likes Montana Mills Bread.  Yea, the bread is pretty reasonable... but the shipping is pretty much redonkulous. I think just the shipping of 3 loaves of bread (you know... bread... not 3 tons of bricks) was like $12.

3) Target is bullshit.  They had a cd listed online for $8.99.  I went to the store to purchase it.  $15.00. Since I was going to be buying 5 copies of this cd... it should not be shocking that I walked out empty handed.

Maybe I should give in and just start mailing everyone gift cards... because with many of these gifts I'm going to have to re-package them... and ship them out again.... and pay for more shipping charges.  Well, maybe I'll just charge the shipping to my company like my boss does. That sounds like a good idea. :)

Oh, and for those in the Rochester area, I heard on the radio this morning that CompUSA in Henrietta is going out of business, and the sale starts tomorrow.

» Work is really getting in the way
I have a lot of things that need to get done, but instead... I am stuck here at work with nothing to do.

Here is the rub. I just do not get enough vacation days.... especially when you take into consideration my lack of workload.  I am not feeling that great today either, but because my vacation days and by sick days come from the same kiddie pool, here I sit, stewing about how much packing and laundry and leaf raking I need to get done before we leave for North Carolina on Friday.  I am trying to think of tactful ways of brining up my displeasure with this with Todd when we meet in January to plan out next years "contract". (Note: not really a contract, I just can't think of a better way of putting it).  I can pretty much tell that there is no way that they are going to give me a raise next year. They are unwilling to stop spending money on bullshit instead of paying me more. I don't really need a raise (sure who doesn't want more money... but honestly, I don't do a lot of work here so I can't really justify getting more money) but I do need more vacation days.   I am hoping that if I come at it from the angle of "I know you guys can't afford to pay me any more.... but can we be more flexible with my time" perhaps they would be willing to loosen my chain a bit.

Etsy.com

It's pretty much a collection of people that hand make really cool and interesting stuff. MANY of the items are beyond reasonably priced.  I've got a mental wish list that's about mile long.  My favorite vendor thus far is Here.

The doom that would be universal healthcare

People hate the government.... why would you EVER EEEEVVVVVEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRR want to let them take the reins in your health care? Wisconsin better get ready to kiss their employers goodbye, because I know that if I owned a business there, I would already be packing my bags.

» Pretty good
Life is going pretty well at the moment.  Doug and I went to Ren Fair on Sunday with a bunch of friends. We went to their murder mystery feast, and I got to get my henna done by the same girl that has done it nearly every year since 2002. She always remembers me too, not by my face... but by my hands. I guess that having big hands makes me memorable.

On Friday we will be driving to Auburn, hopping into Ralph's pickup truck, and riding off into the mountains for my "Family Rebellion." My 75 year old aunt Norrie came up with that little title. I cannot wait to go. I love going up to South Kortright and seeing everything that is right with the world for a few days. I prefer being there in the fall because everything is so perfectly beautiful... but beggars can't be choosers. I live for weekends with my mothers family in the mountains. I know that there are probably only a few years left for these gatherings to happen as my aunts and uncle are getting up there in years, and the south is calling their names.  But for now, I will do my best to enjoy the moment.... because it will be one of the best moments of the year.
» Tragedy in Fairport
Although it probably doesn't show on the surface, I'm a Fairport girl. I lived there for 12 years. 3rd grade till Sophomore year of college. I got a quality education there, lived in a pretty nice house, and made a few good friends.

Word came across the airwaves that 5 girls that graduated from Fairport only last week died last night in a head on collision with a semi. I obviously didn't know any of these girls... and judging from the fact that four of them were cheerleaders, even if I had gone to school with them.... we probably would not have been close friends.  Words can not express how badly I feel for their families and friends today. The potential of life was ahead of them. That potential is now lost in an instance of bad driving.... and a few of their friends that were driving behind them saw the entire accident occur. I cannot imagine the hurt, and my sympathies go out to them.

In moments like this you can't help but think how you would cope in this situation. I told Doug that if a child of ours was ever killed not to tell me.  He should have me drugged, taken to a padded room, strapped down... and then tell me.  I think that my grief and anger would be too much for me to handle on my own.  I've seen how I react to the loss of an pet, and I can only imagine that the pain of losing a child would be 100x worse.

Again, my sympathies to the families.
Hug someone that you love today... you never know if it's gonna be the last time that you get to.
